Which Hetzner AX model fits managed production?
The AX line (AMD) is Hetzner's flagship dedicated tier — DDR5 ECC, Gen4 NVMe RAID 1, ISO 27001 datacenters in Falkenstein and Helsinki. Two models cover most projects we manage.
Hetzner public pricing, RDEM management billed separately. You order the server directly from Hetzner and keep control of your contract.

AX42 — entry-level production with ECC
The sweet spot for moving from VPS to dedicated without overprovisioning. 8 Zen 4 cores with DDR5 ECC handle 4-6 Proxmox VMs, an SMB Odoo (up to ~30 users) or a single-node Kubernetes cluster. Paired with our Essential (€70/mo) or Pro (€150/mo) plan based on criticality, you get a solid production baseline for ~€120-200/mo infra + management combined.
AX102 — CPU performance and large databases
The Ryzen 9 7950X3D's 3D V-Cache makes the difference on transactional workloads: mid-size Odoo (50-100 users), mid-size e-commerce, PostgreSQL or MariaDB under load. 128 GB DDR5 ECC and 1.92 TB NVMe support 8-12 Proxmox VMs or a multi-node K8s cluster. Matches our Pro (€150/mo) or Critical (€250/mo) plan based on SLA.
In practice: we deploy Proxmox VE on the AX server, configure Proxmox PBS backups (NimbusBackup included in all plans), CheckMK monitoring, and take on-call duty per your tier. You order the Hetzner server directly, RDEM manages operations.

Our recommendation: Proxmox VE on your Hetzner server
As part of our managed services, we recommend installing Proxmox VE (free, open-source) on your Hetzner dedicated server. Proxmox VE can be installed via Hetzner's Rescue mode or installimage.

Incident escalation via PagerDuty
In case of a confirmed production outage, you trigger an incident via PagerDuty (credentials provided at contract signing). Our on-call team is alerted immediately.
Legitimate incident:
- Server unreachable
- Critical service down
- Ongoing data loss
- Suspected security breach
Not an incident — use email:
- Non-urgent technical question
- Planned change request
- Minor slowness with no business impact
False escalation outside of a production outage: 100 EUR excl. VAT per incident. This policy ensures on-call availability for genuine emergencies.
Your backups should not be at Hetzner
If your backups live on the same server or the same provider as your production, an incident (ransomware, datacenter failure, human error) destroys both at the same time. Cost an hour of downtime before deciding on a backup strategy.
With your RDEM managed services contract, a managed offsite PBS volume is included: your Proxmox VMs are automatically backed up to our Equinix Paris infrastructure, physically separate from Hetzner.
