The vRack (Virtual Rack) is OVHcloud's private network. It connects your OVH dedicated servers, VPS, Public Cloud instances and even on-premise resources on an isolated Layer 2 network — as if they were in the same physical rack. Free and compatible with all OVH ranges, the vRack is the essential building block for cluster infrastructure on OVHcloud.
Multiple OVH dedicated servers (Advance or Scale) linked via vRack to form a Proxmox cluster: live VM migration, high availability, distributed Ceph storage. The vRack handles internal cluster communication at 25 Gbps without routing through the internet.

In March 2021, the fire at the OVH SBG2 datacenter in Strasbourg destroyed thousands of servers — and the backups stored at the same site. OVH Backup Storage is free but limited, hosted in the same datacenter, and not immutable. If your backups stay at OVH, a single incident (fire, ransomware, human error) destroys production and backups simultaneously.
With your RDEM managed service contract, a NimbusBackup PBS volume is included: your Proxmox VMs are backed up automatically to our Equinix Paris infrastructure, physically separate from OVHcloud.
