OVHcloud is a leading hosting provider. Not a managed service provider.

OVH is Europe's largest hosting provider. Their datacenters in Gravelines, Roubaix and Strasbourg host hundreds of thousands of servers. But once your machine is delivered — whether a VPS or a dedicated Rise, Advance, or Scale server — you are responsible for everything running on it. OVHcloud provides the hardware, not the systems expertise.

O What OVHcloud does

  • Provide the hardware (VPS, dedicated Rise/Advance/Scale/High Grade)
  • Ensure network connectivity and anti-DDoS protection
  • Replace faulty hardware and maintain the datacenter
  • Offer vRack for private inter-server networking

! What OVH does NOT do

  • Monitor your services (Nginx, PostgreSQL, Docker, Redis...)
  • Apply OS security updates
  • Manage and test your application backups
  • Call you when your database crashes at 3 AM

OVHcloud support handles hardware and network incidents. Everything above that — OS, services, security, backups, application availability — is your responsibility. Or your OVH managed service provider's.

What RDEM Systems does on your OVH servers

24/7 Proactive Monitoring

Continuous monitoring of your OVHcloud servers: CPU, RAM, disk, network, application services, TLS certificates. Automatic alerts via PagerDuty with immediate response.

Security Updates

Regular patch management on your OVH VPS and dedicated servers: OS, packages, critical CVEs. Your OVHcloud servers stay secure without you having to lift a finger.

Supervised Backups

Configuration, monitoring and restore testing. Compatible with OVH snapshots, OVHcloud Backup Storage and third-party solutions. Your OVH data is protected and tested.

On-Call Support — 4h / 1h SLA

Guaranteed response within 4 hours (or 1 hour for critical OVH infrastructure), 24/7/365. PagerDuty, automatic escalations, systematic post-mortem after every incident. Our 24/7 on-call support is pooled across the managed OVH fleet, which makes it affordable even for a single critical server.

Operational Maintenance

Continuous preventive maintenance on your OVHcloud servers: log rotation, performance optimization, TLS renewal, cleanup, proactive disk space management.

vRack Architecture & OVH Clusters

Design and administration of your OVHcloud vRack infrastructures: Proxmox clusters, MariaDB/PostgreSQL replication, load balancing, private L2 inter-server networking.

OVHcloud VPS Management

OVHcloud offers a range of VPS from Starter to Elite. Whatever your plan, we manage your OVH VPS with the same level of rigor as a dedicated server.

OVHcloud VPS vCores RAM Storage Bandwidth Use Case
Starter 1 2 GB 20 GB SSD 100 Mbps Brochure site, DNS, VPN
Value / Essential 2 4 GB 80 GB NVMe 500 Mbps Business application, CMS, CI/CD
Comfort 4 8 GB 160 GB NVMe 1 Gbps E-commerce, ERP, database
Elite 8 8-32 GB 160-640 GB NVMe 2 Gbps SaaS, high-traffic API, multi-service

All OVH VPS include anti-DDoS protection and automatic daily backups. Our managed service adds application monitoring, security updates, on-call support and operational maintenance — what OVHcloud does not do for you.

Running a Kimsufi or So You Start server?

The Kimsufi (budget dedicated servers) and So You Start (mid-range) lines have historically been very popular with European SMBs. OVHcloud has gradually merged them into its Eco / Rise range, but many clients still run these servers in production. We manage all of them — regardless of how old your OVH contract is. Even an old Kimsufi KS-1 deserves 24/7 monitoring and regular security updates.

OVHcloud Dedicated Server Management

OVHcloud offers 4 dedicated server ranges, from the entry-level Rise to the High Grade for mission-critical infrastructure. We manage them all.

Rise

OVH Rise Dedicated Servers — Entry Level

Budget-friendly OVHcloud dedicated servers with 500 Mbps bandwidth, anti-DDoS included and 24/7 hardware support. Perfect for SMBs starting with their first OVH dedicated server.

OVHcloud vRack: Managed Clusters & Private Networks

The vRack (Virtual Rack) is OVHcloud's private network. It connects your OVH dedicated servers, VPS, Public Cloud instances and even on-premise resources on an isolated Layer 2 network — as if they were in the same physical rack. Free and compatible with all OVH ranges, the vRack is the essential building block for cluster infrastructure on OVHcloud.

vRack Architectures We Manage

Proxmox VE Cluster on vRack

Multiple OVH dedicated servers (Advance or Scale) linked via vRack to form a Proxmox cluster: live VM migration, high availability, distributed Ceph storage. The vRack handles internal cluster communication at 25 Gbps without routing through the internet — and we harden quorum by adding a redundant Corosync ring over the vRack.

Database Replication on vRack

MariaDB/PostgreSQL primary-replica replication over the OVH vRack private network. Minimal latency, encrypted traffic, automatic failover monitored by our 24/7 on-call team.

Load Balancing & Front/Back

Web frontends and application backends communicating over the OVHcloud vRack. Internal traffic stays on the OVH private network: enhanced security, optimal performance, no public bandwidth consumed.

Multi-Region & Hybrid

The OVH vRack connects your dedicated servers across OVHcloud datacenters (Gravelines, Roubaix, Strasbourg) and even your on-premise resources via OVHcloud Connect. Multi-site infrastructure managed from a single point.

Key OVHcloud vRack Features

  • Free — vRack is included at no extra cost with OVHcloud
  • Layer 2 — isolated private network, not routable over the internet
  • Up to 4x25 Gbps — internal bandwidth on Scale and High Grade ranges
  • SLA 99.95% — connectivity guaranteed by OVH
  • Customizable VLANs — IDs, private IP ranges, DHCP, Gateway configurable via OVHcloud API
  • Multi-product — connects dedicated servers, VPS, Public Cloud, Hosted Private Cloud

Hosted Private Cloud (VMware on OVHcloud)

OVHcloud also offers a Hosted Private Cloud product based on VMware vSphere / NSX. This product targets large enterprises with compliance requirements (HDS, SecNumCloud). Our management scope covers VM administration, hypervisor monitoring and application-level operational maintenance — the underlying VMware layer remains operated by OVHcloud.

For an open-source alternative to VMware, check out our Managed Proxmox VE offering.

What does high availability require at OVHcloud?

Two things decide what is achievable, and neither is up to you: a private network between your servers, and a movable public address. The first lets the cluster talk and decide; the second determines whether failover is visible from outside — and how fast.

Private network: the vRack

A layer-2 network between your dedicated servers and VPS, with customisable VLANs and up to 25 Gbps. It is the foundation: cluster quorum, replication and internal traffic all run there without ever touching the internet.

Public address: two routes

And they are not remotely equivalent. This is the point almost nobody checks before ordering, although it changes failover time by a factor of ten.

Failover IP attached to a server Block routed into the vRack
Failover mechanism An OVHcloud API call to reassign the address VRRP, as on a network you own
Failover time Tens of seconds — API call then propagation 1 to 3 seconds
Who decides OVHcloud's control plane Your nodes, with no external dependency

The question to ask before designing

It is not "do you have a failover IP?" but "is your block routed into the vRack?". When a block is routed to the vRack rather than attached to one machine, the addressing is yours inside it: VRRP works normally there, public addresses included. You get failover within seconds, without going through the provider's API or depending on its availability at the worst possible moment. It is the design we favour, and we have proven it in production.

On the hypervisor side the rest is standard: three nodes so the cluster can decide on its own, storage reachable from each of them, and a working fencing mechanism.

Going further: the four architectures we deploy are compared by failover time and cost on our managed high availability page. The address failover mechanism is covered in keepalived or Pacemaker, and the hypervisor-side prerequisites in hypervisor failure.

Our Recommendation: Proxmox VE on Your OVHcloud Server

As part of our managed service, we recommend installing Proxmox VE (free, open-source) on your OVHcloud dedicated server. Proxmox VE is available as an installation template on OVH dedicated servers (Rise, Advance, Scale).

  • Native PBS Backup: automatic VM backup to NimbusBackup, off-site at Equinix Paris — included in your managed service contract
  • Snapshots before every update: instant rollback if anything goes wrong, with no downtime
  • Service isolation: each application in its own VM, no domino effect in case of a vulnerability
  • Live migration: move a VM from one server to another with zero downtime (useful when upgrading your OVH range)
  • No license cost: Proxmox VE is 100% open-source, unlike VMware. Proxmox support subscriptions are available and recommended for business-critical environments.

Already running Proxmox VE? Great — NimbusBackup integration is immediate. Running bare Linux/Windows? We handle the migration to Proxmox VE as part of the onboarding process.

Server management, administration, operations: what each word covers

Depending on who you ask, the same work is called managed services, server management, server administration, operations or maintenance in operational condition. These are not five offers: they are five ways of naming distinct acts, which we perform on your OVHcloud servers at different frequencies and under different commitments.

The table below gives, for each term, the actual act, its frequency and the plan that covers it. This is the scope we sign.

Term used What we actually do Frequency Plan
Monitoring
supervision
CPU, RAM, disk fill level, network, application services and TLS certificate expiry — on a VPS as much as on a dedicated server. Every alert goes into PagerDuty. Continuous — 7am-10pm 7 days a week on Essential, 24/7/365 on Pro and Critical All three
Preventive maintenance OS and package updates, CVE remediation, log rotation and cleanup, certificate renewal, heading off disk saturation before it happens Monthly cycle, plus critical CVEs handled off-cycle All three — drawn from your included or prepaid hours
Corrective maintenance Diagnosis and service restoration after an incident: a stopped service, a full partition, abnormal load, a server that does not come back after a reboot issued from the OVHcloud control panel On event, within a 4h response time (GTI) on Pro, 1h on Critical All three — drawn from your included or prepaid hours
Server administration The changes you ask for: accounts and keys, vhosts, firewall rules, certificates, mounting a volume, opening a flow between two machines on the vRack On request, scheduled with you 1 hour per month included on Pro and Critical, then €120 excl. VAT per hour billed in 30-minute steps — you are warned before you go over
Operations Backups pushed off-site to our Proxmox Backup Server at Equinix Paris, outside OVHcloud infrastructure, and restores actually replayed on a randomly picked machine, with the report handed to you Daily backup; restore test once per half-year up to five machines, once per quarter beyond that All three — capacity varies by plan
L2 / L3 support There is no level 1 here: your request reaches a systems engineer directly, with no qualification script in between. Replacing a disk, physical work in the datacenter and swapping the machine remain OVHcloud's job. We open the ticket on your behalf from your control panel and follow it through to service restoration — you never have to translate a system diagnosis into support language. Email and member portal during business hours; PagerDuty for a confirmed production outage All three

Maintenance is counted in hours, not in acts. Keeping a server in operational condition is capped by a volume of hours: those included in your plan, those you have prepaid, or those billed beyond. In practice, one hour per server per month covers routine needs — that is the volume included in the Pro and Critical plans. Beyond it, the hour is billed at €120 excl. VAT in 30-minute steps, and we tell you before you go over rather than after.

This scope is identical on an OVHcloud VPS and a Rise, Advance, Scale or High Grade dedicated server: it is engineering time, not a percentage of what the machine costs. It applies just as much to a server we install as to taking over an existing server already in production and still held in your own name — see what you keep and how you get us out.

Incident Escalation via PagerDuty

In the event of a confirmed production outage, you trigger an incident via PagerDuty (credentials provided at contract signing). Our on-call team is alerted immediately.

Legitimate incident:

  • Server unreachable
  • Critical service failure
  • Active data loss
  • Suspected security breach

Not an incident — use email:

  • Non-urgent technical question
  • Planned change request
  • Minor slowdown with no business impact

False alarm outside of a genuine production outage: 100 EUR (excl. VAT) per incident. This policy ensures on-call availability is reserved for real emergencies.

Your backups should not be at OVHcloud

In March 2021, the fire at the OVH SBG2 datacenter in Strasbourg destroyed thousands of servers — and the backups stored at the same site. OVH Backup Storage is free but limited, hosted in the same datacenter, and not immutable. If your backups stay at OVH, a single incident (fire, ransomware, human error) destroys production and backups simultaneously.

With your RDEM managed service contract, a managed offsite PBS volume is included: your Proxmox VMs are backed up automatically to our Equinix Paris infrastructure, physically separate from OVHcloud.

Frequently Asked Questions About OVHcloud Server Management

How much does OVHcloud server management cost?
OVHcloud dedicated server management starts at €299/month for an Advance server with 24/7 monitoring, on-call support, and automated backups. Pricing varies based on server model (Advance, High Grade) and service level required.
What is your response time for OVH server incidents?
Our 24/7 on-call rota is triggered through PagerDuty. What we commit to contractually is a response time (GTI): 4h on the Pro plan, 1h on the Critical plan. We do not commit to a resolution time (GTR): until the diagnosis is made, nobody can honestly promise a repair duration. Proactive monitoring catches the anomaly before impact, and tested restores give us a measured recovery time rather than an advertised one.
Which OVHcloud server models do you manage?
We manage all OVHcloud dedicated servers: Advance range (Advance-1 to Advance-5), High Grade range (HGR-HCI), and OVHcloud VPS (Starter, Comfort, Elite). Our expertise also covers legacy ranges (Rise, Scale, etc.).
Do you handle security updates on OVH servers?
Yes, our OVHcloud server management includes complete security update management: system patches, application updates, and critical fixes. We perform these operations during scheduled maintenance windows to minimize impact.
Do you offer OVHcloud VPS management?
Yes, we offer complete OVHcloud VPS management (Starter, Comfort, Elite). Services included: 24/7 monitoring, automated backups, security updates, performance optimization, and English-speaking technical support. Starting at €149/month.
How do I migrate to RDEM management from direct OVH support?
Migration is seamless with zero downtime. We obtain access to your existing OVH server, perform a complete audit, deploy our monitoring tools, and gradually take over management. Average duration: 48 hours. Onboarding is included in the plan; a server-to-server migration is quoted separately.
Are backups included in your OVH management service?
Yes, our OVHcloud management plans include daily automated backups with 30-day retention. We use OVH Backup Storage plus our redundant NimbusBackup PBS solution (Equinix Paris datacenter). Quarterly restoration tests included to guarantee integrity.
Can I migrate from OVH to another provider (Scaleway, Hetzner...) with your help?
Absolutely. We regularly perform cross-provider migrations (OVH ↔ Scaleway, OVH ↔ Hetzner, etc.). Migration planned outside business hours, with comprehensive validation testing and a short cutover window, announced in advance. Quote on request.
Can I migrate from OVH to another provider with your help?
Absolutely. We regularly perform cross-provider migrations (OVH ↔ Scaleway, OVH ↔ Hetzner, etc.). The migration is planned with you, rehearsed on a staging machine, and the cutover is scheduled in a window you choose.
